Life Story

Bayete Lumumba Kamau (Spikey)Turner was born August 23, 1972 in Trenton, New Jersey. He was the first born of the late Keith L. Turner and surviving Gloria J. Sykes. Bayete peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on Monday April 12,2021.

Bayete was educated in the Trenton public school system, also where he completed his high school education. He was a member of the Faith Covenant Fellowship Ministries church in Burlington New Jersey. Bayete got his first job at Xerox Corporation as a mail clerk. He then moved to Newark/Edison in 1999-2009 where he was a manager at McDonald’s. During this time, he also worked part-time as a Security guard. In 2009 Bayete moved to Burlington County, where he became a manager at Wendy’s (2010-2019). Thereafter he was employed by Holiday Inn until his illness. He was a hard worker and loved to work.

Bayete was joined in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Tanisha Howard, in Jan 2009. From this union was born three handsome sons Breon Turner, Brandon Turner and Byron Turner.

Bayete grew up under his family in Burlington, NJ, and friends in Trenton NJ. He surrendered his life to Christ while a member Faith Covenant Fellowship Ministries in Burlington NJ. He was a member of the Steward Ministry, served on the usher board. He even organized things for the youth FCFM like the Easter egg hunt. Bayete loved his spiritual family. He helped within the membership tremendously.

Bayete loved all his family natural and spiritual with all his heart. He had a way of making everyone around him laugh and smile especially with his jokes and sense of humor. He loved his sports from being involved with coaching his children to having them being intensely involved in sports. Bayete enjoyed dancing and eating and was always the life of the party. He dedicated his life to taking care of others. His kind and loving spirit made him well suited for.

Bayete leaves to cherish his memory; his beloved mother Gloria J. Sykes, wife Tanisha Howard of Willingboro NJ: Seven sons; Bayete Hunter, Keith Hunter, Bayquan Turner, and Maurice Williams all of Trenton NJ; One Daughter; Ajaniq Wiggins Of Trenton NJ. One brother; Khalid A Turner (Khadirah) of Trenton NJ and one sister Oni Turner (Robert, Ra’mayha, Raven) of Marlton NJ. Granddaughter; Promise Hunter, Grandsons; Cagney Roberts, Damari Williams of Trenton NJ; A Great-niece; Daughter’s and Sons at heart; Lashonda Terrell (Xiomara Terrell, Jeremiah Flowers), Thomas and his children’s siblings.

Aunts; Barbara Gillete-Sykes (James), Joann Sykes, Cynthia Sykes, Joann Sykes, Ora Flippin, Linda Richardson. Predeceased Uncles William, James, Reggie, Calvin, Wayne, Elbert. A surviving Uncle Tommy (Toni) Sykes of Burlington NJ; A special cousin Dena Billups (Jason). Special friends Lynda Carter, Moesha, Dinky, Ray, Troy, and Tina.

A Large Host of cousins Bayete love dearly and friends...

He was our Bayete. Always laughing, joking, smiling and full of light!
