Leonora Jeannette Thames

Leonora Jeannette Thames affectionately known as “Mom Thames” was born in Aruba, Dutch West Indies on November 26, 1955 to the late James W. John and Sarah P. John.

Mom Thames graduated from James Hillhouse High School in New Haven, Connecticut. Her love and passion for children led her to pursue a career in the field of childcare. As a dedicated and loving child care provider, Mom Thames mothered, nurtured and cared for many children of all ages, ethnicity and backgrounds as if they were her own including her “grannies”.

Mom Thames accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She served in various ministry capacities as a member of the Church of God of Prophecy such as VLB leader, Sunday school teacher, and praise and worship / song leader. Mom Thames was also licensed as a teacher during her membership with the Church of God of Prophecy. Mom Thames later became a member of Praise and Glory Tabernacle Family Worship Center (PGT) under the leadership of Dr. Apostle Philip Whiteside. Here at PGT, she continued to serve in ministry and was ordained as an Elder and Prophetess. Mom Thames was a great woman of faith who trusted and believed in her God against all odds. She was known by all as walking, talking, breathing, living testimony and miracle. Signature phrases associated with her are “the good news is that the bad news is wrong” and “today is a great day for a miracle”. Some of the miracles added to her “championship belt” of victory over the enemy are overcoming multiple strokes, congestive heart failure, lung/kidney disease, and a flesh eating bacteria that began to eat her flesh to the bone. One of the most notable miracles is when the doctors gave her 24 hours to live...BUT GOD and 10+ years later God was still working miracle after miracle after miracle in her life and winning again and again.

Mom Thames was preceded in death by James W. John (father), Sarah P. John (mother), Alvina John (sister), Althea John (sister), Nikisha S. Thames-Adams (daughter).

Mom Thames leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy, children: Kiana Thames, Tyreese Thames (Angelica), Danika Thames-Cubbage (July), and son-in-law Christopher Adams, Sr.

A walking, talking miracle that’s me,

Countless victories over sickness, disease, death the grave and defeat;

When the devil and people counted me out, God surely brought me out without a doubt;

He proved the doubters wrong so I could sing my triumphant song;

God has won again, I will never be defeated because I’m safely resting in Heavenly peace with Him
