Darrell Lewis Jones

Darrell Lewis Jones, affectionately known as “Dinky,” was born to Camilla Yvonne Rouse and Lewis Jones (deceased) in Philadelphia, PA on November 17,1960. Darrell was also raised by his loving bonus mother Mildred Jones.

The third of five children, Darrell was educated in the Philadelphia School system and completed his primary education upon moving to Willingboro NJ. He continued his education at University of Akron.

Dinky began working at an early age alongside his father and brother at Jones Maintenance Service mainly at Temple University Campus. He eventually became an independent contractor working alongside his friend Darryl Gladden at Andrea’s Carpet. As a contractor, he provided service for many community businesses.

 

His passion for sports began with playing football and basketball, which led him to start coaching youth basketball, including “Hard Work” camp and “Baggett Court Vision” summer camp at Rider University. Later his love of sports transitioned to becoming a Basketball Referee until his health began to fail. Making lifelong friendships. Always true to his city routing for all Philadelphia Sport teams.

Darrell grew up in the Faith from youth, he recommitted to his faith and was baptized as adult at St. James Baptist Church in Beverly, NJ. Later, he became a member of Alpha Baptist Church in Willingboro NJ.

He was proceeded in death by his brother Dwayne “Ski” Jones.

Leaving behind to cherish his memory is his son Darrell Jones Jr, sisters Anita Dennis, Michelle Miller and Traci Jones-Dorset (Kirk), honorary sister Denise Williams, sister-in-law Leslie Jones; honorary brother/cousin Steven Jones (Melissa); nephews: Aaron Miller and Tye Dorset; Nieces: Toi Hutchins, Teeonna Jenkins (Kennon), and Alexis Jones, (Dominique Brown, Nyesha Darrah); Affectionately loved and cherished by Leon Bolden and Leah Bolden; and a host of cousins, other relatives and an abundance of friends.
