Gilda Jackson, 70 departed this earthly life on Monday, October 11, 2021.
Gilda Jackson was born to the late James Edward Smaw and Naomi Perry on September 19, 1951. She was the oldest sibling of sister Sabrina and brother Darius..
Gilda was born and raised in Hampton,Virginia. She graduated from Pembroke High School in 1968. After graduating from high school, she went to North Carolina A & T where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. Gilda’s passion for learning led her to further her education so she pursued an additional Masters degree from Virginia Commonwealth University as well as Drexel University.
Gilda worked for the State of New Jersey as a Dietitian and Food Service Supervisor. After retiring from the state in 2013, she started her own dietitian private practice so that she could be of service to her community. Gilda’s love for education led her to teach Nutrition at Bucks County Community College. This allowed her to use her skills to help others pursue their dream. Gilda is a veteran who proudly served in the National Guard Reserves, Army Reserves, and Army. Gilda was heavily involved in several community organizations such as Breast Cancer Survivors, Red Hat Society, and the Disabled Veterans. In addition, Gilda served the Disbled American Veteran as a Commander for Chapter 42 and Vice-Commander for the State of New Jersey.
Gilda enjoyed many hobbies. One of them was traveling. Gilda wanted to see the world. You would often find her cruising with her beloved husband or sitting anywhere there was water. Gilda also enjoyed going to Florida with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.
Gilda is survived by her loving husband Charles A, Jackson, son Napoleon Davis, her brother, Daruis Smaw, two stepdaughters, Angelica Alston and Ashley Jackson, stepson, Lester McDonald, Jr., four granddaughters, Tamara Kendall Davis, Brianna Kai Davis, Janiyah Kelis Jackson and Courtney McDonald, one grandson, Kaleb Alexander Dixon, nephews, Darius Smaw, Jr. and James Smaw, niece, Chante Renee Franklin, and a host of cousins.
Gilda was a two time Cancer survivor with an amazing fighting spirit. She was, and will continue to be, an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Celebration of her life services will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 11 AM at the tabernacle Baptist Church 150 E. 2nd St., Burlington, NJ. Family and friends may call from 10 AM until time of service. Interment call Lynn BGWCD Veteran Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown New Jersey. Services provided by the TL Hutton Family and Friends funeral services, Burlington New Jersey.
