Julia Green

On Thursday, December 30, 2021, Julia Green, age 90 of Willingboro, New Jersey transitioned peacefully from this earthly world to her heavenly home.  She was born on July 16, 1931, in Plainfield New Jersey to Julia Evans Bailey and Hampton Bailey, Sr.  She grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey in a large family, with seven other siblings and numerous cousins and relatives living nearby.  She was baptized at an early age at Calvary Baptist Church, in Plainfield, New Jersey.  Later in life she became at member of St. John Baptist Church in Scotch Plains New Jersey, where she was a member of the Usher board. She was a woman of deep faith who developed a strong spiritual relationship with God.

She obtained her High School Diploma from Plainfield High School.  Soon after she married Herman V. Green of Charles City, Virginia. They had four children  Vernon, Karen, Valarie, and Mark.  After raising her children, she worked various jobs in North Jersey, for Markay Handbags, Greenbrook Manor Nursing Home, and Vtech.  After moving to South Jersey, she worked in an electronics company for several years before retiring.

To know Julia was to know a woman with a quick smile, a hearty laugh, a loving nature and with a lifelong curiosity for learning.  She was devoted to her family and applauded their accomplishments. When she was younger and physically able, she attended as many major events in the lives of her grandchildren as she could, such as graduations, weddings, and baby showers.   Julia often encouraged others while offering her nuggets of wisdom.

Julia was a student of history, politics and world events and was quick to share her opinions. Determined not to let technology leave her behind, she learned to use her iPad, worked online jigsaw puzzles, texted, and Face-timed family members.  For relaxation she could be seen crocheting and creating crafts that were usually gifted to her children and grandchildren.  She prepared tasty food, gardened, colored beautiful pictures, and completed mosaics. A true observer and admirer of nature and those gifts God gave us to see, taste and feel, she enjoyed life!

When her physical health declined and COVID safety protocols limited activity outside her home, she continued to display a strong determination to enjoy as much life as possible even when it meant eating Thanksgiving dinner inside her home from her dining table while granddaughters Ashlee and Ayana shared the meal sitting outside on the deck.

A devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she leaves to cherish her memory four children, Vernon Jerome Green (Sylvia Green) of Charlotte, NC, Karen Williams, (Jarius), of New Castle, DE, Valarie Short (Robert, Jr.) of Liverpool, NY.  Mark Welton Green, (Denise) of Bowie, MD; one brother William Peter Bailey of Mercer Island, WA.

She leaves behind a host of adoring grandchildren Jennifer Green-Glasco, Bryan Green, Michael Williams, Janelle Williams, Bradley Green, Ashlee Green, Robert H. Short, Deanne Green, Ayana Short, Sherelle Green.  Julia leaves behind nine Great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Herman Vernon Green, her parents Hampton Bailey, Sr., and Julia Bailey, four brothers Hampton Bailey, Jr., Thomas Bailey, Ralph Bailey, and Henry Bailey, and two sisters Gertrude Bailey and Martha.
