Olga Adelaide Senior

Olga Adelaide Senior

September 13,1912 to August 22,2021

Olga Senior was one of eight children born to Ellen and Nathaniel Grant of Chalky Hill, in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica, West Indies. Though their upbringing was modest, they were proud and independent thinkers.

Olga worked as a Postal Administrator at the Inverness Post Office in Jamaica, and there she met and married her husband Charles Senior. They immigrated to the United States of America and raised their three children, Eula, Fionne and Clive, in Brooklyn New York. Olga studied and began a nursing career after her youngest child, Clive, began school.

Working first at Swedish Hospital on Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, and then later at Kings County Hospital, she touched all who came under her care with her compassionate and sympathetic nature.

In her long life there is much history. There have been many times of great joy, and many milestones that she had witnessed. These memories include her children's, grandchildren's, and great grandchildren's successes, to include graduations, weddings, birthdays, school plays, sport games, dance recitals... To name just a few. She's been there through it all.

She often spoke of past Christmas Days as a child in Jamaica, and the Christmas morning breakfasts that her mother lovingly prepared. The importance of family was instilled in her children and her grandchildren.

Ma will always be remembered for her excellent cooking and the recipes she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Her bread pudding with raisins, her salt fish and ackee dinners with flour dumplings were famous.

Ma often quoted Shakespeare which she learned as a youngster in Jamaican secondary school. She cheerfully quoted her Bible passages and knew Scripture so well.

We all took many trips over the years to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Disney World, Barbados, Puerto Rico..traveling by plane and by even by RV, to name a few. She and Charles went to the United Kingdom, where one of her brothers, Walwin, lived.

Her daughter Eula (Richards) preceded her in death. Eula became a nurse like her mother and also worked at Kings County Hospital. Her son Clive Senior and his wife Margot reside in Daytona FL. Daughter Fionne Williams, wife of Elliott Williams(deceased) lives in Williamsburg, Va. Nephew Mahol (Bunny) Grant, (son of Olga's sister Frances Grant Wright), and dear friend Sandy Spadaro reside in Connecticut. Mahol was like a son to Olga, and she loved him dearly.

Olga's grandchildren are Xochilt Williams(Mark Briscoe), Karis Nwauwa (Chris Nwauwa) and Edmund Richards.

Great grandchildren are:

Markeim, Shohahn, Kahill, Xovet, Arielle, Collin and Fionne (Chika).

Special mention for Jean Maxwell and Ruby Senior both of Brooklyn, beloved daughters of Charles Senior, Olga's late husband.
