William Vinson Rainey

William Vinson Rainey was born on January 23, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Reuben L. Rainey Sr. and Veola McIntyre Rainey.

He was also the grandson of John and May B McIntyre. William, also was  affectionately known as Bill or Billy. He graduated in 1955 from Monongehala High School in Pennsylvania from there he enlisted the Navy. He trained and worked as an air traffic controller where he studied the various airplane capabilities to help ensure safer landings. He operated in that position  for 20 years. While serving in the Navy, he managed and played intermural sports such as softball and baseball). Where he won several tournaments. During his time in the Navy, William served on the USS Shangri-La, the Hornet, and the Inchon. While transferring from Olathe, Kansas to Patuxent, Maryland, he met the love of his life Doris, whom he was married to for almost 60 years. They had three children together: Allen, Brian, and Adrienne.  William worked as a recruiter in the Philadelphia district for the last 10 years of service to the US Navy.  He retired from the Navy in 1985, at which time, he started a new career working for the US Postal Service.  He worked for the US Postal service for 27 years and decided to retire from his mailhandlers‘ position in 2012. In between his transition to the Postal Service he managed a movie theater in Stratford, New Jersey for which his children and bonus children loved to see the latest movies and get little Caesars.


He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy: his loving wife , whom he absolutely adored, Doris Dickinson Rainey; two sons William A. Rainey (Pam); Brian V. Rainey;  one daughter Adrienne R. Rainey; foster daughter the late Sonya Owens; daughter-in-law Gloria Rainey; 21 grandchildren Yolanda Mackins (Vincent); Paul Rainey (Katy); Tina Lewis (Tiany); Reginald Polk Jr ; Tyriq Evans (Julia); Dylan Bowsky; Pearl Rainey Hailey (Aaron Hailey); Xavier Rainey; Jordan Ross; Joshua Rainey; bonus grand-children: Siara Arguella; Keilah Arguella; Delizah Arguella; Marco Arguella Jr.; Alexia Rodriguez; and a host of many other grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister Ruby M. VanCroft (the late Reverend William VanCroft); the late John Crank; the late Rueben L. Rainey Jr. (Gloria Rainey); the late Robert Rainey; and the Reverend Joseph Hardee (Wyonetta Hardee); Sister-in-Law's: Rose M. JuZang( the late Ivan)Leslie White (the late Curtis); Margaret Lewis (Rudy Lewis); and the late Joan Dickinson; Patricia Crawford(Vernon)Gwen Walker Brothers-in-law:  Theodore Parker(Jane);Lemuel Dickinson (Justine Dickinson); and bonus daughter Dawn Glenn. And host of bonus children and grandchildren.


Celebration of his life will be held 11am Wednesday, September 8, 2021. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 150 E. 2nd Street, Burlington, NJ. Viewing will be held 10AM until time of service. Interment: BGWCD Veteran Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. Masks must be worn. Service to the family provided by the TL Hutton Family and Friends Funeral Services, 869 Beverly Road, Burlington, NJ.
